NZ: Risky business lavender farming

Everyone in business complains about all the new safety regulations that need to be complied with before anyone can get on with the job.

This was even before the Health and Safety Reform Bill back before Parliament this week.

One of the laudable aspects of the Bill is that it finally recognises the dangers of types of farming that have to date gone under the radar. The bill classifies beef, sheep and dairy farming as low risk while putting worm, lavender and butterfly farming in the high risk category.

High risk means higher compliance costs and more hassle while low risk industries get off a bit more lightly.

It's easy to see why lavender farming is far more dangerous than something like dairy farming.
