US: Walmart launches passive irrigation system to save water

Walmart reports that they are reducing water use in their garden centers by up to 99 percent in some locations by installing WaterPulse capillary mats. The company estimates that it was using 20,000 to 30,000 gallons of water per day in some stores and will be reducing that to around 400 gallons per day with the new technology.

WaterPulse had been growing their presence steadily in individual Walmarts since 2013. This past July, the retail giant announced that it planned to implement the mats in all of its 3,700 garden centers across the U.S. To date, more than 500,000 mats, in excess of 7.3 million square feet, have been delivered to Walmart and installed in more than 3,000 locations.
