On the first day of the Dutch Lily Days the lines have been opened for the Lily League, the top-50 most favourite lily varieties. Mr. Bart Siemerink, director of Keukenhof has cast the first official vote at the Onings testing greenhouse. After the lines are closed on June 14th, the results will be made public. The person who nominated the varieties with the highest ranking will receive a flight ticket to the Dutch Lily Days 2017 or a traveler’s check.
As in previous editions of the Dutch Lily Days, the doors of the most prominent lily companies will be open for anyone. Ever since the first edition, these companies created a stage especially for lilies. With the Lily League, the Dutch Lily Days will have another special element.
Increasing attention
"With the introduction of the Lily League we hope to increase the attention toward lilies even more," says Evert van Zanten, CEO of Onings Holland and creator of this initiative. "We have chosen to let Lily League be open for all available varieties and not to promote any. Breeders responded positively to this idea, because it gives them a clear view on the current preferences of the lily market globally."
Visitors can cast their votes till June 14th. This is possible through the touchscreens in the testing greenhouse of Onings Holland or online via www.lilyleague.com.
