On Tuesday January 3, the fire broke out. "What started out as a few flames around 8 pm turned into a huge devastating fire within minutes", Cindy Thomas of Dan Schantz Farm told the WFMZ. At the night of the fire, they posted this picture above on their Facebook page and mentioned that all employees were all safe. "Fortunately, it happened at night, so no employees were present and the greenhouses were mostly empty", said Cindy.
Picture posted on January 5: "Here is an ariel view of the fire that's been circulating social media. It could have been much worse! Again, we thank God for all of the fire fighters, EMS, and police support that responded. And thank YOU for all of your support."
Then, the days after, the real damage became clearly visible. "The fire ripped through one of its buildings and caused more than $1 million in damage, including the loss of flowers and bulbs awaiting shipment", the owners told the The Morning call.

Two days after the fire, they started to remove the scrap metal and on January 6, Dan Schantz posted the pictures below. In this post, they also mentioned that their production was packing orders for the deliveries for the next day and that the planting lines are sticking over 200,000 young plants for the Mothers Day flower's. Despite all that damage at the 83-acre Dan Schantz Farm & Greenhouses, it is not affecting the Easter flower season, the owners told the The Morning Call.

But what actually caused the fire? "The investigators believe the fire may have started with an electrical short in the ceiling of the new head house, which is our main shipping area including the loading docks and our bulb coolers."

In the meantime, the activities of the production team needed to continue. So, they made space in their Sales Department and tried to fit everyone in.
They are working together in that office for one week now but this will be over soon. On January 9, the production office arrived. "Simply IT LLC will be here shortly to get the workstations all set up and ready for our staff."
In this hectic week, Dan Schantz and Greenhouses received a lot of support, in several Facebook posts, they show their gratitude for all the people that have helped them.
