Gerrit Kreling, Gerlingco:

"There is a lot of rubbish among online offers"

In his spacious greenhouse based in the Dutch Zuilichem, there are only 2 colours planted: yellow and white. Every single stem is a Euro chrysanthemum. Gerrit Kreling produces them with great passion and commitment. “This variety is much sought-after in Germany. Over the years, I have gained enough experience to know that my production method suits many florists worldwide.”

He means that as a virtue, not as a pat on his own back. “Many years I’ve spent in finding the right standard of quality and ripeness. When the flowers are cut too tight, they look spindly in bouquets. When they’re cut too open, they will look old. [...] There will always be others, who are better at certain times but Gerlingco strives for a long-term pole position.”

Quality check at Gerlingco is very strict. Gerrit: “The machines are always monitored by different people, I want us to stay on top of quality at all times. If a bunch looks odd or out of place in any way, it won’t leave the premises.” FleuraMetz buyer Arie Schoneveld confirms. “Gerrit rings me on the odd occasion: ‘You’re not getting them, Arie.’ The flowers often still meet the highest quality standards however, if he thinks they’re not good enough, I’m not getting them. It says something about his character. To me, it means that I will always receive the highest quality.”

Gerrit: “In the past, people always needed to feel and smell the product before they buy. Nowadays, there is a lot of rubbish among online offers and an equal amount of disappointed customers. This is not the case with FleuraMetz, they want to avoid disappointments at all costs. If only there were more businesses with the same mindset. Having said that, it is still a natural product, not one flower is the same. However, if I don’t think it’s perfect, I won’t sell it.”
