UK: Double H supplies Phalaenopsis for Kew Gardens Orchids Festival

Double H are supplying orchids to the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew in southwest London for this year's Orchid Festival.

Orchids supplied by Double H will provide the backdrop to the entire festival, with thousands of orchids and a huge range of varieties and colours supplied.

Kew’s 23rd annual Orchids Festival, which this year is inspired by the vibrant culture of Thailand, will showcase the remarkable variety of colours and forms in which orchids can be found. Thailand is home to around 1,100 species of orchids, and this diversity had to be reflected in the display which Double H have helped Kew to create.

As a supplier of over 4.5 million orchids a year to UK supermarkets, the Bournemouth-based nursery is best placed to provide the wide range of varieties required for the event. As part of the design process for the festival, Kew visited Double H to view their range of orchid varieties, and were impressed enough to source the bulk of their Phalaenopsis orchids from them.

To supply such a diverse range of orchids, Double H used their growing expertise and modern plant production facilities. This enabled them to co-ordinate the supply of about 20 different varieties in specification to Kew, allowing the generation of specific colour-themed areas of their designs.

In 2016, Double H created the Discovery Exhibit for RHS Chelsea, winning Gold and Best Discovery exhibit. This year sees the nursery continuing to provide quality orchids, which can be seen at the Kew Orchid festivals Princess of Wales Conservatory in the event running from 10 February – 11 March 2018.
