Dutch Tulip Awards awarded

The winners of the Dutch Tulip Awards were announced during a festive meeting in the Studios of Aalsmeer. The Dutch Tulip Award, an initiative of Royal FloraHolland, is awarded to the most successful market introduction of 2018.

The entries in the four categories were judged by the expert jury on the following aspects: commercial attractiveness, quality, logistics, load and vase life. In addition to three prizes per category, the jury also awarded an honorable mention in each category. The complete overview of the prize winners is as follows. 

Cut flowers category

  • 1st prize: Eustoma russellianum single-flowered russellianum 'Botanic Pink' by Montana Lisianthus from Poeldijk. Explanation by the expert jury: "Fantastic botanical product. Remarkably real and different from the average Eustoma. Matches the field bouquets and zeitgeist of today. Quality is great and a beautiful addition to the Eustoma assortment."
  • 2nd prize: Helianthus annuus 'Pro Cut White Nite' by T. Steenwijk from Abbenes and J. van Boksel from Hedel.
  • 3rrd prize: Chrysanthemum disbudded Etrusko White by Arcadia from De Lier
  • Honorable mention: Alstroemeria Ardenne by Tesselaar Alstroemeria from Heerhugowaard

Houseplants category

  • 1st prize: Monstera Monkey Leaf by v.d. Arend Tropical Plant from Naaldwijk. Explanation by the expert jury: "Excellent product for the green plants assortment. Larger pot size/different pot sizes would be an addition to the Monkey Leaf assortment. Shown in abundance on Instagram. In short, a great approach to social media. Modern and can be used in many interiors." 
  • 2nd prize: Alocasia macrorrhiza Stingray by v.d. Arend Tropical Plant from Naaldwijk and VDE Plant from Woubrugge.
  • 3rd prize: Zamioculcas Zenzi by M. v Duyn Potplanten from De Lier.
  • Honorable mention: Tillandsia 'Curly Slim' by Stofbergen Plant Company from Bergschenhoek.

Garden plants category

  • 1st prize: Helianthus Funshine Multiflower by Bunnik Plants from Bleiswijk. Explanation by the expert jury: "It is said that you hardly need to restrain the product. It stays compact on its own. Also, it is sustainably grown. An addition to the Helianthus assortment. Appealing and has the wow effect!"
  • 2nd prize: Clematis Garland Viennetta by Nolina Kwekerijen from Woubrugge.
  • 3rd prize: Anemone Wild Swan by Fa. E. Hopmans from Wieringerwerf and Van Woudenberg Tuinplanten from Zevenhuizen.
  • Honorable mention: BV Hydrangea Macropphylla Wedding Gown by Sjaak van Schie from Maasdijk.

Concepts category

  • 1st prize: Phalaenopsis Original Orchids Frame by Artisan from Nieuwaal. Explanation by the expert jury: "Original, promising, a true gift. An addition to the world of concepts! Gives an even better impression of the story."
  • 2nd prize: Lots of Love and Bee Happy Veer & Moon by JUB Holland from Noordwijkerhout.
  • 3rd prize: Phalaenopsis Flying Orchids by Ter Laak Orchids from Wateringen.
  • Honorable mention: Eco Hydrangea by Plantenkwekerij P. van Geest from Maasland.
