‘Geraniums in Coral’ living art installation at Zetter Townhouse

Coral coloured Geraniums will transform the iconic entrance of The Zetter Townhouse hotel in Clerkenwell this May as part of Clerkenwell Design Week (CDW). The fantasy ‘underwater’ vignette is inspired by ‘Living Coral’ - Pantone Colour of the Year 2019 and will celebrate the longstanding urban popularity of the geranium in this hue.

‘Geraniums in Coral’ is co-designed by award-winning garden designers and RHS medallists, Claudia de Yong, and Ian Drummond, creative director of Indoor Garden Design. It will showcase the ubiquitous geranium within a ‘seascape’ depiction. Over 100 coral geraniums will be incorporated into the installation alongside a statuesque mermaid and oyster shell, clad in varying shades of moss. Grasses, Echeveria and Rhipsalis will also form part of the design to illustrate aquatic vegetation and seaweeds. Hidden wire meshing will form the base onto which components will be attached.

The Zetter Townhouse, a boutique hotel with a Georgian façade, bears one of the most photographed doorways in London and acts as a hidden gem for those wanting a bit of respite during CDW.

Claudia de Yong says, “I am delighted and excited about being asked again this year to design and create a floral feature on behalf of Pelargonium for Europe at the iconic Zetter Townhouse in Clerkenwell. I look forward to working alongside Ian Drummond from Indoor Garden Design and combining our talents as part of Clerkenwell Design Week.”

Ian Drummond says: "It’s such a pleasure to be working with Claudia again on this innovative project at the Zetter Townhouse. I have such a nostalgic affection for geraniums, they were one of the first plants to be given to me as a young boy and it’s wonderful to be able to showcase them in such a creative and exciting way."
