InstantHedge launches a new distributor program, a MiniHedge line to complement its existing boxwood and full-sized hedges, while also winning industry recognition for its outstanding European Beech InstantHedge.
Increased availability through distributor partners
To make its high-end line of hedges more accessible for projects around North America, InstantHedge identified regional partners trusted in their communities to promote the finished hedges. Current distributors include Acorn Farms (Ohio), Cavicchio Greenhouses (Massachusetts), Colesville Nursery (Virginia), Manor View Farm (Maryland), and Pierson Nurseries (Maine). Along with the announced distributors, InstantHedge continues to finalize distribution arrangements with partners in New Jersey, Illinois, Michigan, and Connecticut.
“I have never had a customer so excited to see hedging before,” says Ashley Barrett of Barrett’s Horticultural Services, Winchester, VA. “She was literally jumping up and down!”
As part of the arrangement, distribution partners will offer MiniHedges to the trade priced around $99.
Introducing MiniHedge line
Due to the popularity of InstantHedge’s Green Mountain Boxwood hedges as well as their ‘Little Simon’ Arborvitae that provide planting ease and immediate finished landscape effect, the company added six new MiniHedges to their offerings for 2020. The MiniHedge line provides more options for creating low borders, softening hardscape edges, designing geometric patterns, and starring in knot gardens. The new MiniHedges serve as excellent boxwood substitutes for regions concerned about boxwood blight.
Available in a 32-inch-long container with five plants per box, the varieties range from 18 to 24 inches tall and include:
Box Honeysuckle (Lonicera nitida): Fast-growing hedge for a great boxwood substitute. Grows in full sun or shade. USDA Zone 6-9. Deer resistant.
Green Spire Euonymus (Euonymus japonicus ‘Green Spire’): Tall, narrow hedge that grows quickly and sports glossy, dark green foliage. Grows in full sun to part shade. USDA Zone 6-9.
Hicks Yew (Taxus x media ‘Hicksii’): Classic columnar hedge with lovely evergreen needles and red arils. Grows in full sun to shade. USDA Zone 5-8.
Schmidt Boxwood (Buxus sempervirens ‘Schmidt’): Narrow, upright boxwood ideal for tight spaces. Grows in full sun or shade. USDA Zone 5-8. Deer resistant.
Plus, InstantHedge will begin offering two additional MiniHedges this summer:
- Blue Maid Holly (Ilex x meserveae ‘Blue Maid’): Low maintenance, hardy hedge with purple-green, dense foliage produces bright red berries with purple stems for great winter interest. Grows in full sun. USDA Zone 5-9. Deer resistant.
- Dragon Lady Holly (Ilex aquipernyi ‘Dragon Lady’): Tall, columnar habit hedge with glossy dark green foliage produces bright red berries enjoyed by birds all winter. Fruits best in full sun but can grow in part shade. USDA Zone 6-8. Deer resistant.
The new MiniHedges weigh less than 40 pounds each and ship on pallet racks for low freight cost.
“InstantHedge provided the perfect products to beautifully complement my design for a 30,000 square foot French provincial estate,” says Melinda Vaughan of Toms Creek Nursery & Landscaping in Denton, North Carolina. “The plants were impeccable and the service prompt and courteous.”
European Beech InstantHedge Wins 2020 Green Thumb Award
The Direct Gardening Association recently announced the best new ornamental plants, garden products, and edible plants as recipients of the prestigious 2020 Green Thumb Award. InstantHedge’s European Beech won the top honors for the ornamental plants category. The European Beech InstantHedge provides immediate beauty and privacy the day it’s planted, with the finished look of a mature hedge. The hedges are available in two sizes: 3-4 feet tall and 5-6 feet tall.
Because InstantHedge is shipped in biodegradable cardboard containers that can be planted straight into the ground, there’s no packaging waste, as the box naturally biodegrades in the soil.
Winners of the Green Thumb Awards were chosen by an independent panel of garden writers and editors. The winning products were selected based on their uniqueness, technological innovation, ability to solve a gardening problem or provide a gardening opportunity, and potential appeal to growers. The Green Thumb Awards recognize outstanding new garden products available by mail or online.
The awards are sponsored by the Direct Gardening Association, a nonprofit association of companies that sell garden products directly to consumers via catalogs and websites.
