Since the beginning of this year, Stars Plant has fully focused on the propagation of cut flowers. However, in order to make that possible, a number of things had to be done, both in management and staffing.

With the recruitment of Mr. Nic Straathof and Mr. Henk Leenheer, the area of knowledge and skills was filled in, but the nursery itself lacked two things, says Gert Jan Valstar: a good cultivation floor and an extra seed line.
Young plants in the making
As far as the floor is concerned, just a call to Houdijk den Boer was sufficient. They had already come by more than two years ago to provide half the nursery with a beautiful basalt floor. This type of floor has good drainage and guarantees that plants are not standing in water. Since last month, the rest of the nursery, in its entirety more than one and a half hectares, has also been fitted with this type of cultivation floor.

Finally, the propagation of a few million plants does not happen just like that. A seed line from Flier Systems has been providing reliable service for many years, but because the new strategy requires considerably more capacity, it had to be expanded. With the new machine the capacity has more than doubled.
For the time being, also some potted plants are grown if space is available
"This new machine was installed two weeks ago and with that, at least for now, we are really ready for the coming years."
