The thought in the title often goes hand in hand with doubt and questions. This is only logical when you see how quickly things are developing in the LED field and the energy market, according to Arno Wartewig of Orance. Besides, the search for answers has not become any easier with the many players there are in the market. "Selling parties and/or installers mainly have knowledge about their own products and are ultimately focused on sales."
A nice fixture, but not the right electrical installation? Or not the right fixture for the required light level? The result is a supplemental lighting installation that does not meet expectations. With the right approach and guidance, this can be prevented, according to the consultancy and engineering firm Orance, from Wateringen, which is devoted specifically to lighting in greenhouse horticulture. "This market is growing enormously, and the current situation in the energy market has led to it attracting even more attention, but there is often a lack of solid knowledge to make such informed business decisions," says Arno.
An important part of the process, besides a clear project definition, is managing expectations well on the supplier side. "What is 'good' and what does 'quality' mean if you do not define what that means to you as a customer and what you expect in return?", says Arno. "This can be different for everyone. On top of a clear project definition, a supplier definition provides insight that allows us to venture into the process with only parties that match these definitions. This provides direction, clarity and lays the foundation for success. With investments of this size, you cannot rely on assumptions or feelings. Success is built together with the right partners."
This is also important internationally, or perhaps, precisely internationally, where there is not nearly as much knowledge available about lighting systems as in the Netherlands, according to Arno. "It is striking to see that, especially internationally, people are more often used to such an approach when choosing a supplier, perhaps because of the distance to knowledge, but also because of negative practical experiences and professional purchasing organizations used to bringing in external parties."
"We not only deliver a good lighting and electrical design, but we ensure conscious and considered choices, which guarantee a future-proof business!"
