In 2019, Beekenkamp Plants launched the BKX tray for seed products. After positive trials, thorough research was done into additional BKX trays to also deliver cuttings products. This resulted in the new 60-hole BKX-tray, suitable for ornamental plant products. Aart Jan Bos of Beekenkamp Verpakkingen shows the new innovation.
"This tray is suitable for three types of plugs: paper pots, loose-fill, or a glue plug. It was initially developed especially for the paper plugs."
What makes this system better than other systems for begonia cuttings? "This tray has lower legs, which means the plants are closer to the heated cultivation floor. This allows the plant to root more easily, so you get a plug that is more deeply rooted. The plant then also grows more easily."
At Beekenkamp Ornamentals, it is important to automate, Aart Jan explains. "With this BKX tray, the removal is much easier and is therefore also ideal for the potting machine at the grower."
The BKX tray, which can be used for outdoor Begonias, Helianthus, and Pericallis, has a life span of more than fifteen years, Aart Jan explains. After the 60-hole BKX-tray, the 84-hole and 128-hole BKX-tray will also be added to the assortment. These trays will be developed for cuttings products and various seed products. Plenty of tests have already been done with these new trays.
