"Start signalling and monitoring thrips on time"

During and after the clearing of the old crop, every effort is made not to allow an infestation immediately at the start of the new crop. Once the young plants have been planted, some spraying with chemical agents with a short residual effect on beneficial insects is often still done.

Most growers then feel that they are starting their new crop clean and that there are no or hardly any pests present in the greenhouse. However, HortiPro specialists have noticed that growers are regularly disappointed, including this season. They have already seen that several growers, for example in sweet pepper, hydrangea and potted plants, have slight thrips pressure in their greenhouse despite all the measures they have taken.

HortiPro has installed sticky traps with and without PheroThrip 2.0, a non-selective thrips pheromone, at several growers. On the sticky traps without PheroThrip 2.0, the growers hardly catch any thrips. The grower might therefore think that their cultivation is free of thrips. However, on the sticky traps with a PheroThrip 2.0 pheromone, considerably more thrips can be seen.

By using the thrips pheromone PheroThrip 2.0, HortiPro lures adult thrips to the sticky trap sooner and their presence can therefore be detected sooner. The earlier thrips are spotted, the sooner appropriate measures can be taken to prevent the pressure from rising too high and growers from having to deal with excessive thrips pressure for the rest of the growing season.

PheroThrip 2.0 is a non-selective thrips pheromone in an evaporation spike. This evaporation spike can be placed in a 5mm hole in a yellow or blue sticky trap and will considerably increase the number of thrips caught on the sticky trap.

Several tests and demos have shown that the PheroThrip 2.0 pheromone attracts several thrips species. Thus, Californian, pepper, tobacco, echinoid and Japanese flower thrips (Thrips Set.
Japanese flower thrips (Thrips Setosus) were all caught. The latter in particular is usually not or hardly seen on sticky traps.

In addition, on sticky traps with a PheroThrip 2.0 pheromone, both male and female thrips are caught. This results in a considerable reduction of the reproduction rate.

In the meantime, extensive experience has been gained with pepper, cucumber, chrysanthemum, gerbera, rose, hydrangea and strawberry cultivations, among others.

It is very important not to touch the evaporation spikes with your bare hands. Place the spike in the catching plate with a plastic or latex glove or tweezers. The cap on the evaporation spike must remain closed.

The duration of action of the PheroThrip 2.0 is 6 to 8 weeks. They are available per 10 pieces in a resealable package and can be kept in the freezer (-18⁰C) for up to 2 years.
