Call to return to oil-heated greenhouses in Belgium

The Belgian farmers' union, Boerenbond, is lobbying for a temporary simplified permit framework that allows fuel oil boilers to be installed in that country's greenhouses. So reports VILT, the Flemish info center for agriculture and horticulture. Since 2016, especially greenhouse vegetable growers have massively exchanged their fuel oil boilers for CHP and gas heaters.

"We know this isn't ideal, climate impact-wise, but necessity knows no law. The high gas prices mean many greenhouse growers are barely keeping their heads above water," says Pieter Van Oost, plant production advisor at Boerenbond. You can read more here (in Dutch).
