Bloomfield Wholesale Florist Ltd is adding Italian and English foliage to its assortment of fresh flowers.
"We added foliage to our daily assortment at the start of September," explains Bloomfield's John Hardcastle, who runs the family business with his son Sam and wife Michelle. Bloomfield has seen an increased demand for foliage since dedicated wholesaler GB Foliage permanently shuttered at the end of August. "Several of our regular customers used to buy foliage from GB, so we're looking to give them the complete package," adds John. "It was important for the Flower Market to continue to stock English foliage."
John – who has been a wholesaler at New Covent Garden Flower Market for more than 40 years - admits adding foliage to their range means having upskill their product knowledge to be able to give customers the very best advice.
"It's not straightforward as we can have as many as three deliveries each week, but it's a good challenge for us to expand and we're leaning all the time," says John. "During our first week we had great feedback from customers, and we'll see how it goes in the weeks and months ahead.
