AAB autumn meeting

NL: Future of horticulture discussed

On Tuesday 26 November, AAB organized an autumn meeting focusing on the future of the greenhouse horticulture sector. With a multi-faceted program, speakers, and networking drinks, the evening offered both knowledge and connection.

Content highlights
The evening started with a presentation by Hans van Cleef, an expert in energy markets and transition. He gave a comprehensive analysis of the geopolitical and economic developments affecting the horticultural sector, such as the challenges around the EU ETS and energy transition.

Fred van Heyningen followed with his views on internationalization as a driver of sustainable growth. He emphasized how investing in foreign markets not only contributes to risk diversification but also offers opportunities in new markets and technologies.

The practical sessions were provided by AAB experts. Aad Janssen opened with an explanation of the Discounted Cash Flow method. He showed how this method helps entrepreneurs make strategic choices by providing insight into risks, costs, and future returns. Aad emphasized that sustainability can not only improve cash flows but also strengthen the competitive position.

Sebastiaan Cretier built on this and focused on the benefits of sustainable energy solutions such as geothermal and heat pumps. Using various scenarios, he explained how these technologies combine to lower energy costs and a smaller carbon footprint while reducing risks through diversification of energy sources.

Networking and connection
The evening ended with a networking reception, where entrepreneurs, experts, and policymakers exchanged ideas and explored new collaborations in an informal atmosphere.
