Plantec celebrates 35 years of innovation and impact in the global floral industry

In celebration of 35 years at the forefront of rose breeding and variety introduction, Plantec hosts an international industry forum on May 30, gathering floral leaders, breeders, wholesalers, and innovators from across the globe. The event serves not only as a tribute to the company's legacy, but as a forward-looking dialogue on the trends, challenges, and opportunities shaping the future of floriculture.

Founded in 1990, Plantec has grown into one of Latin America's leading rose variety introducers and biggest rose plants propagators, playing a pivotal role in positioning Ecuador as a global reference point for quality, innovation, and floral excellence.

The forum featured high-level discussions, highlighting key voices in the industry, including:

  • Carlos Krell, founder of Plantec, reflecting on the early days of the rose industry in Ecuador.
  • Jose Antonio Restrepo, President of the board of directors of Asocolflores, offering insights into the Colombian market.
  • Alejandro Martínez, Executive President of Expoflores, speaking on Ecuador's strategy amid global shifts.
  • Patrick Dahlson, CEO of Mayesh, discussing wholesale adaptation in the face of retail disruption.
  • Martin Altamirano, Chief Procurement Officer of Four Seasons Quality, offering the European perspective on procurement and certifications.

Panel topics include market evolution, sustainability certifications, post-pandemic logistics, and the human impact of floriculture- highlighting the industry's role as a major employer of women, promoter of rural economic development, and global symbol of beauty and emotional connection.

"This industry has an extraordinary story to tell—one of science, emotion, and beauty", says Carlos Krell, Founder of Plantec

The anniversary celebration reaffirms Plantec's continued commitment to breeding excellence, grower support, and collaboration across borders.
