NL: Royal FloraHolland updates Packaging Register

With the Packaging Register, the floricultural sector is taking steps towards the digital exchange of sustainability data on used packaging in floriculture. This registry, set up in collaboration with various parties in the supply chain, provides growers, buyers and packaging suppliers with a streamlined way to manage and share packaging data. As well as contributing to a more transparent sector, Royal FloraHolland is also simplifying the administrative obligations associated with the declaration of packaging materials.

Why a Packaging Register?
The need for a centralised Packaging Register arose from the desire to enable accurate and efficient reporting of packaging materials. Producers and buyers face increasing administrative burdens, including sustainability reporting and customs declarations. With the Packaging Register, we are digitising and standardising these processes, making life easier for companies and saving them money. The register also contributes to a better understanding of the use of packaging materials that promote sustainability in the sector.

From testing to going live
The Packaging Register is ready to go live. In the coming period, packaging suppliers will link their packaging data to the Packaging Register. Growers can then add which packaging they work with in their catalogue in Floriday. And a link between the Packaging Register and Floriday allows packaging data to be transferred to Floriday, giving buyers instant insight into the information they need for their returns and sustainability reports. This data is made available to buyers via the API link. Growers will be notified when most of the packaging data is available in Floriday and can be linked to their items.

Working together for a sustainable future
The Packaging Register is not only a technological innovation, but above all a joint effort to make the floriculture sector more sustainable. Royal FloraHolland, VGB (on behalf of FSI Accelerators), Floriday, the Floriday Expert Team Buyers (formerly Blueroots), HSPI (United packaging suppliers) and Floricode are joining forces to increase transparency in the supply chain and support growers and buyers with their sustainability commitments.
