Students at Daviess County and Apollo High Schools are putting their hands to good use this Spring. The school greenhouses are now officially open, featuring flowers, herbs, hanging baskets and other plants, all grown and raised by students.
The horticulture program gives students hands on learning experience, teaching them about plants and best practices for growing each one. Students say the class teaches them real-life lessons on the impact farmers and growers have on the community.
14 News talked with student Wyatt Hayes about this experience: "I think it's very important to have an agriculture education at some point for your school career, because people need to see and understand the work that goes into it to have food on the table because a lot of people think you can just go to the store and pick something up and it just shows up there, but people need to understand how all that works ."
Community members can stop to purchase the plants. The greenhouses staying open until everything sells out.
