UK: Record-breaking attendance for tulip field

An annual event which sees people flock to explore a sea of tulips in full bloom has attracted the most visitors in its six-year history. More than 40,000 people travelled to see the vibrant display at the annual Tulips for Tapping event, near the Sandringham Estate, this year.

The event, which is organised by Norfolk Tulips in partnership with Tapping House, also raised a record-breaking £581,381.11 for the hospice in west Norfolk. Each year, visitors from across the globe come to enjoy the scenic fields, take photographs and support a good cause. The rainbow-striped fields, which featured in the Wicked films as the backdrop of Munchkinland, are open for two weeks each spring.

Nicola Ellis, chief executive of Tapping House, said: "It is a delight to have the opportunity to partner with Norfolk Tulips again to deliver this fantastic event.

"We are so grateful to Mark and Susanne Eves, Michael Rae and Roydon Hall Farms for their continued commitment to us. The generosity of the visitors who travelled from near and far to see the tulips has been overwhelming – we couldn't hold this event without their support."
