US Congressman visits Oregon flower farm

Flowers, family and national legislation were some of the topics a U.S. congressman touched on when he visited a flower grower in Oregon last week.



Rep. Kurt Schrader, a Democrat representing the state’s fifth district, toured Oregon Flowers in Aurora, on Sept. 16. During his visit he talked to owner Martin Meskers, AAF, president of the Society of American Florists, and Meskers’ family, asking them more about their livelihood and what he could do from Washington, D.C., to make their lives easier.

It was the first time Schrader had visited the operation, but it wasn’t the first time the lawmaker has heard about Oregon Flowers. Each year during SAF’s Congressional Action Days, Meskers makes a point to visit Schrader’s office. This year, the congressman’s office inquired about the possibility of a visit.
