UK: APL's Phil Tremayne crowned joint Landscaping Champion at industry awards

The Horticultural Trades Association (HTA) has announced that Phil Tremayne, General Manager of its specialist group, the Association of Professional Landscapers (APL), has been awarded the title of 'Landscaping Champion' at the Pro Landscaper Business Awards alongside Mark Gregory, from Landform Consultants.

A new category introduced this year, the Landscaping Champion award, recognised the person or people who made a difference and helped to showcase the value of the landscaping sector by going above and beyond. The judging process considered the views of the judging panel and the industry through an open vote.

In the hotly fought category, the judges decided that both Phil Tremayne and Mark Gregory should be awarded joint Landscaping Champions, as one of the winners narrowly won the judges' vote and the other narrowly won the public vote.

Phil was praised for his passion for the industry, for acting as a "father figure for his membership community", and for establishing himself as "a heavyweight within the industry". The judges also noted that he goes out of his way to help and support members by offering advice, strengthening relationships and interactions among HTA landscaping members and the wider industry, and advocating for and raising standards.

During the awards ceremony at Old Billingsgate, London, on 24 April 2026, Phil Tremayne said: "Winning this award today means everything to me, and just to be nominated by my friends and colleagues is a huge honour. I've worked in this industry for over 30 years, so being recognised in this way really feels like a big hug from my extended family of landscapers. Thank you to everyone who voted for me, and of course, to my very good friend Mark Gregory - I couldn't think of a better person to share this award with."

Phil has worked at the Horticultural Trades Association since 2010 and has led the Association of Professional Landscapers, the HTA's specialist group of designers, landscapers and professional gardeners, for more than 10 years.

David Denny, Director of Research and Knowledge Transfer at the Horticultural Trades Association (HTA), said: "Phil's incredible dedication to our members and to landscaping in general is matched only by his expertise. As you can see from the judges' comments, our members hold him in high esteem, as do all his colleagues. This award illustrates just how much Phil contributes to landscaping, the HTA and the whole industry. Congratulations Phil!"
