The Kenya Flower Council in collaboration with Business for Social Responsibility (BSR) will hold a workshop on the need for social projects and impacts on the workers under HERprojects on the sidelines of the International Floriculture Trade Fair (IFTF) in Vijfhuizen, the Netherlands on November 9, 2017 from 2:30 pm.
Kenya Flower Council partnered with BSR, a global nonprofit organization that works with its network of over 250 companies to build a just and sustainable world, and that initiated the HERproject which is a global public–private partnership to empower low income women. BSR’s HERproject has been operating in Kenya since 2012.
This partnership aims at addressing issues of gender equality and worker welfare in Kenya’s floriculture sector through implementing HERproject. The partnership recognizes that investment in gender issues leads to the up-skilling, motivation and general satisfaction of the workforce that ultimately drives greater productivity and business performance.
HERproject is an initiative to enhance worker health, empowerment and productivity in order to support the continuous improvement of the sector. Kenya Flower Council’s vision is to promote the Kenyan floriculture sector as a leading sector with responsible practices on worker well-being and compliance, resulting in healthier workers and recognition from international markets.
The workshop will focus on the social projects implemented by different agencies and the impacts of their projects on the flower industry. The discussions will also explore other possible sources of funding for the flower industry and way forward.
