NL: Decowraps opens new DC in Aalsmeer

'Robert, we're going to put DecoWraps on the map.' This is how Steven Tchira supposedly said it, and so it was done. This week, US company Decowraps opened their new premises at Green Park Aalsmeer. The packaging specialist has settled on a plot of 8,000m2.

It really is an impressive achievement, which Steven with his Dutch business partner Robert Katan has been able to realize within a short period of time. In 1999 Steven founded the company Decowraps. In 2007, he met Steven and in 2008 they opened the first office in the Netherlands. A decade later, the suppliers have a factory in Colombia, a joint venture in China and in Kenya, and now also a larger and highly sustainable distribution center in the Netherlands. The new Aalsmeer Center supplies the entire European market and offers employment to about thirty people.

A new building, of course, is opened with a party

Budget
The distribution center was built on a plot of 8,000 m2 and consists of 1,500 m² of office space and a warehouse of 3,200 m². The purchase, and obtaining all permits, lasted a year and a half, but when that all was completed, it took eight months to build. "Besides, we stayed well within the budget. A nice surprise for me, because where I come from, it's always double," said Steven, who lives in Miami.

Decowraps employs 350 people worldwide. The company aims to distinguish itself in terms of sustainability by extensively using recycled plastics, but also by, for example, operating the business as environmentally friendly as possible. The new building is an example of this: it is energy-neutral. On the most varied aspects, measures on savings and efficiency have been implemented and the roof is full of solar panels. The ambition is to achieve a BREEAM (Excellent) certification.

But first, it was time for a party. Check out the photo report here.
