Royal Flower Exhibition "Museum in harmony with nature"

Poland: New rose bred especially for the Royal Castle in Warsaw

Arkady Kubicki and Gardens of the Royal Castle in Warsaw were filled with several thousand species of plants, all thanks to the Royal Flower Exhibition "Museum in harmony with nature", which took place on June 10-13, 2021. This unique event gathered thousands of visitors and the most important representatives of the industry gardening. On Saturday, the Royal Castle gained a new variety of rose – "Queen of Warsaw "® – which will be the rose showcase of the Royal Castle in Warsaw.

The Royal Flower Exhibition was an unprecedented event. For 7 days, over 250 people worked on the arrangement of the exhibition. Landscape architects, gardeners and florists created a joint work full of unusual plant and flower compositions. The exhibition featured 9,000 different plant varieties and almost 2,000 cut flowers. The tallest plant was 4.5 meters high, and the lowest was 2 centimeters. The internal exhibition of the exhibition covers over 548 sq. m.

This is an extraordinary event for the Castle that goes out to people and shows beauty. At the exhibition, we can see that this beauty is also related to nature. Here we can see that the world of rose, meadow, beautiful flowers, herbs and grasses is something that complements great art perfectly – said Prof. Wojciech Fałkowski, director of the Royal Castle in Warsaw.

The exhibition is divided into nine thematic zones, of which the smallest, but the most important, is the 'Queen of Warsaw' zone, presenting a new rose variety bred especially for the Royal Castle. The unusual rose joined the royal collection of plants, next to the tulip named in 2019 the 'Heart of Warsaw'. The royal rose variety is frost-resistant, it is a bed and bed rose, but it is also great for flower arrangements. It delights with a beautiful porcelain magnolia color. The rose was bred by Łukasz Rojewski, and its breeding lasted 10 years. She has something about herself. That little hook that makes him grab a heart. What I like the most about it, is its non-obviousness – this is how the proud grower described the rose.

The godparents of the rose are: Małgorzata Walewska, opera singer, Mireille Steil, president of the Luxembourg Society of Rose Lovers and vice-president of the World Federation of Rose Societies, Łukasz Rojewski, rose breeder and prof. Wojciech Fałkowski, director of the Royal Castle in Warsaw. On Saturday, on the stage in the castle gardens, the godparents solemnly named the rose 'Queen of Warsaw'. The event was accompanied by a concert of classical music, shows of court dances performed by the Kutno Early Dance Group "La Danse" and the conference "In harmony with nature". The ceremony was also an occasion to officially open the Royal Garden Route, thanks to which it will be possible to explore the royal gardens even better, while learning about the names of the plants located there, the roots of which are changed four times a year. One of the Saturday events was the presentation of the awards of the Polish Rose Society, the Gardens of the Royal Castle received the Royal Garden of Excellence award for taking actions to protect and popularize historical gardens as a cultural and natural heritage of exceptional and universal value.

For four days, the exhibition in Arkady Kubicki was visited by over 7,000 people. Despite the capricious weather, the castle gardens were full of visitors enjoying the beauty of nature and many attractions accompanying the exhibition. During the vernissage opening the exhibition, there was a unique Royal show of flower creations created by the team of Małgorzata Szwagiel. The floristic shows of the masters of floristry, Maciej Krzus, Małgorzata Szwagiel, and students of the master class of the Mariola Miklaszewska Floristic Academy, allowed the viewers to learn the secrets of building unusual floral compositions. Valuable practical information about gardens and plants was provided by lectures organized with the participation of the exhibition partners Leroy Merlin, Park-M, Kutno - the City of Roses and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Excellence award for taking actions to protect and popularize historical gardens as a cultural and natural heritage of exceptional and universal value.

The event was organized as part of the 50th anniversary of the reconstruction of the Royal Castle in Warsaw.
