Kevin Chen, Terra Nova Nurseries:

China: "Shenzhen Flower Show under the pandemic brings more hope"

Affected by the pandemic, many offline exhibitions in China have been suspended. The 2022 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Shenzhen Flower Show originally scheduled to be held in Shenzhen from March 28 to 31 was also unable to open to the public as originally planned. In order to meet the expectations of the public and industry people for the flower show, the organizer moved the flower show online and invited flower lovers from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the whole country to seize the "tail of spring" on the "cloud" side.

Terra Nova Nurseries is one of the exhibitors. According to Kevin Chen, the China representative of Terra Nova "This exhibition is divided into 8 sections, including international gardens, new and excellent varieties, urban gardens, creative gardens, characteristic plants, horticultural flower collections, garden design for college students, and welcoming flower borders. We are participating in the "horticultural flower collection" section. This section is undertaken by Hongyue Flowers and brings together 10 representative horticulture-related enterprises at home and abroad.

Kevin Chen recalled, "Shenzhen was affected by the pandemic during the preparation of the exhibition in March, and both booth construction and layout were faced with great difficulties, and there was even the possibility of postponement or cancellation. Due to restrictions of travelling, Terra Nova's booth was also assisted by Hongyue Flowers and Chongqing Tianmu Agricultural Company (the authorized licensee of Terra Nova in China). In the end, with the gradual improvement of the pandemic situation and the efforts of the organizers, the flower show opened on time and smoothly on March 28. And from April 1st to 5th, it welcomed the first batch of audiences in Shenzhen. The joy of the lifted-up prevention measures and the beauty of spring flowers made everyone very happy. The 15,000 reserved tickets every day during the development period were all snapped up by the visitors who made the reservation online for the first time."

"What we show this time are including the leaf Begonia varieties which fit for the hot and humid summer at Guangdong area. as well as Heuchera, Heucherella, Kniphofia and other plants. In particular, the Begonia with its great plant shape and colorful leaves attract a large number of tourists who come to visit and take pictures,” Kevin Chen explained. Among them, the Begonia T REX Stardust variety won the second prize in the selection of new and excellent varieties at the Shenzhen Flower Show. At the same time, the booth of Terra Nova also won the "Excellence in Exhibition Award" in this flower show.

As one of Terra Nova's important product series, Begonia is an important breeding crop for Terra Nova. Terra Nova has been committed to the cultivation of various characteristic Begonia varieties for many years, and there are currently more than 40 varieties of Begonia.

"The 2022 Shenzhen Flower Show was prepared and held under a very difficult pandemic situation. Although the overall number of visitors was less than the previous two, this flower show has injected hope and confidence into many domestic horticultural colleagues, allowing more practitioners to experience the flower-like hope and sunshine from the other end of the screen through the online views," said Kevin Chen.
