Colombia: Chrysanthemum Week 2022 is coming to an end

Today, the 2nd of September, is the final day of Chrysanthemum Week 2022. Over the last four days, new chrysanthemum varieties and trends were on display at different locations in Antioquia. In total, 10 breeders participated in the event, promoting 250 new chrysanthemum varieties in addition to 1,250 existing ones in the international market.

The chrysanthemum is an important crop for the Colombian floral industry; Last year, 163.6 million USD and 45,002 tons were exported of this variety. The majority go to the USA as this country is, in value, the main destination of this species (67.1%). The first half of this year registered a total of 22.563 tons shipped to different countries around the world, especially the United States, UK, Canada, and Chile, explains Augusto Solano, president of Asocolflores, the Association of Colombian Flower Exporters.

The 10 breeders participating in the event are  Ball SB, Selecta one, Danziger, Dümmen Orange, Dekker Chrysanthemums, Deliflor, Royal Van Zanten, Floritec, Icon Selections, and Progeny Breeding.

Besides the showcase, also, talks and discussions of great interest are held on issues of development, innovation, logistics, marketing competitiveness, and floral design, with different actors in the chain: breeders, growers, importers, and supermarkets, among others.

During Chrysanthemum Week, many breeders have created their own themes and are showing more than just new varieties. For example Danziger and Deliflor. Below is a peek of their displays.

Danziger Instamums Week
Danziger's Chrysanthemum Open Days 2022 will showcase more than 150 Chrysanthemum varieties, more than 22 novelties, and more than 120 varieties of 16 diversification crops.

This year, the theme of the Danziger Open Days 2022 is Instagram. "This is where our stunning Chrysanthemum varieties so often pop up. The event's entire concept and look & feel will be Instagram-ish, as will its name: Danziger InstamumsWeek (Instamums= Instagram + Mums.)

The team with Danziger displayed their beautiful chrysanthemums at the trade show.

"Our Chrysanthemum open days are a very important platform for us at Danziger, enabling us to showcase our novelties varieties of chrysanthemum and other crops and to invite our customers to select their favorite and innovative flowers for the 2023 season. These special days are perfect for meeting, exchanging information, and finally making the best strategic decisions," says Danziger's Deputy CEO, Ori Danziger.

Taking the social media concept one step further, they went live from the event on their Facebook page to share the beauty of their creations with their followers and to give them an inspiring peek at their vivid highlights varieties. "After finding their favorite selfie spot, this will also be an opportunity for visitors to have fun, smile, and go live."

Deliflor
This year their theme is Disney's newest movie, "Encanto." "Our greenhouse is a magical garden decorated with more than 30.000 flowers that make you feel like you're part of the movie. We have 258 varieties at our open house, 100 of which are brand new. Disbudded chrysanthemums, spray chrysanthemums, and santinis will dazzle every visitor. We're bringing beauty to life", says Deliflor's Juan David Lecuona.
