"Expo Flora Astana will become one of the most important platforms for the international floral industry in Central Asia"

The second edition of the Flora Expo Astana, which took place last week in the EXPO IEC, Astana, Kazakhstan, welcomed over 2.000 professionals. The exhibition was attended by 130 exhibitors from 11 countries, thereby emphasizing its growing international status and importance for the industry.

For the second year the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Central Asia provided support to the exhibition to showcase the Dutch companies in the best possible way. In 2024 the support of the Embassy made it possible to make the Netherlands the partner-country of the exhibition.

"I have no doubt its importance will only increase in the coming years," said Warja Abrosimova, brand ambassador at Decorum Plants & Flowers. Warja was closely involved with the fair's inception and is herself an insider to the market. "It's typically the type of fair where connections and deals are made not primarily at the exhibition floor, but even more so at the dinner table."

Next to the local players in the industry, also a lot of Dutch companies were present, 18 in total. The emphasis was on breeders and cut flowers, with a central role for the cut chrysanthemum. Decorum was also present with a stand and showed both plants and flowers. In addition, a group of Decorum growers traveled to the event. The group had a busy schedule as they not only visited the fair, but the local market was also explored, and local end customers were personally introduced.

The fair hosted a Buyer's Program, which offered special network opportunities for those attending and visiting the fair. As part of the business program, a variety of conferences were held on the future possibilities for the landscaping and floriculture industries in Kazakhstan, stressing its close connections with the international, especially Dutch, floriculture sector.

The fair also hosted a special Business Program with a series of conferences and presentations, such as developments in the field of landscape architecture and floriculture in Kazakhstan. A lot of attention was paid to international relations, especially to Dutch floriculture. During 'The Netherlands Day,' organized with the support of the Embassy of the Netherlands to Central Asia and the Ministry of Agriculture Nature and Food Quality of the Netherlands, Warja gave an extensive presentation together with a number of Decorum growers. The focus was on Decorum's wide range of flowers and plants, novelties and 'Decorum Only'. Decorum also explained in various videos about the sustainable production methods is growers use. Issues such as the use of geothermal energy, biological control and water reuse were discussed as well.

Visitors showed a lot of interest in the plant and flower brand from the Netherlands and were particularly interested in specialties such as scented Phalaenopsis, painted Lisianthus and new colors of Iris and bromeliads. Large Kentia palms for use in offices and shopping centers were also popular.

Warja: "As Decorum, we look back on a very successful event, but I have no doubt that this applies to all participants and visitors. They indicated that they were already looking forward to next year's edition. Rightly so, because it will be even bigger. More and more companies are interested in participating. The Flora Expo Astana will become one of the most important platforms for professional floriculture in Central Asia."
