NL: M.C. Zwinkels retires, Orient nursery takes over freesia cultivation

M.C. Zwinkels of Poeldijk supplied his last freesia and zantedeschia stems to the auction last week. The grower quits and, according to Veiling Rhein-Maas, is going to enjoy his retirement.

Kwekerij Zwinkels & Zn was run by brothers Aad, Kees and Marcel Zwinkels. On an area of 26,000 m2, they produced 6.4 million freesias and 1.9 million callas per year.

However, the cultivation site remains operational. Kwekerij Orient BV, also from Poeldijk, is taking over the greenhouse, continuing production (of the freesia, not the zantedeschia).
