US: From businessperson to the life of a flower grower

Just over three years ago, Bree Douma, an experienced flower farmer, and Scott Nebesky, formerly a businessperson, came together with the purpose of sharing nature's beauty and bounty with the community. They brought to life Bohemian Flowers and Farmstead at the edge of Freestone near the southern entrance of Bohemian Highway. With their combined skills and a deep love for the land, it was the perfect blending of business and nature. Bree had worked the land in various locations for 20 years and was ready for a more focused farm life. Scott is thriving in a new life after Bohemian Flowers and Farmstead.

The first year on the land was about learning the nuances of the farm and its location. What had once been a pasture for cattle became a colorful landscape. Marigolds, lisianthus, sunflowers, tomatoes, squash, and peppers all sprouted, nurtured by the sun, coastal fog, and heat. The soil, compacted by the previous four-legged residents, needed significant work. Bree and Scott poured in time and effort to turn it into rich, loamy soil, ideal for growing flowers, fruits, and vegetables. Over the next two years, they continued experimenting with flowers and edibles, creating the farm it is today.
