Spring is in full bloom, and just in time for Mother's Day. Delta County greenhouses are opening their doors with vibrant flowers and fresh inspiration for the season. However, the process began back in the middle of frigid winter. Chenier's Green House President & Owner Nick Chenier says the business has been working since February.
"We start growing our hanging baskets at the end of February, and then each week we get more plugs in that we transplant and then keep growing from there to the finished product. Each week it keeps ramping up more and more and more," Chenier said.
With annuals, perennials, vegetables, trees, and more, Chenier says their 50 years of experience are all designed for a grand kick off each season with Mother's Day weekend. The event marks not only the start of peak planting time but also a celebration of community traditions and family gardening.
"Mother's Day truly kicks off the growing season for the U.P. It's really the Super Bowl where everyone comes and purchases gifts for mothers. The beautiful thing about buying either a basket or a planter, it's something that can last all summer long," Chenier said.
