Nature lovers in Rapid City have a lot to be excited about as the city's newest greenhouse opens Tuesday, April 29.
City crews have already begun transplanting approximately 21,000 flowers, including 5,000 flowers raised from seed, at the new greenhouse. Rapid City Parks and Recreation Greenhouse Specialist John Berglund says a new greenhouse was long overdue. The new greenhouse has more space, allows for better weather control, and will help city employees fill local parks with beautiful flowers with ease.
"It's a lot more beneficial,' Berglund said. 'The comfort of the work area is phenomenal. We have the room to do the things we want to do. We're not piled on top of each other. If you've seen videos of our greenhouse in the past, it was tight. Two people could not walk down the aisle. So we're not busting at the seams, so to say."
