US (TX): Tariffs drive up flower costs, but Lubbock grower sees business bloom

As tariffs continue to drive up the cost of imported goods, one West Texas flower farmer says the added expense is helping her business grow. Skyler Richardson, owner of Sky Gardens Flower Farm in Hockley County, has grown fresh flowers outside Levelland for four years. Lately, she says, florists have been knocking on her door more than ever.

"I grow them all here, which is pretty neat," Richardson said. "So we don't have to worry about all the crazy fees that come with everything."

As tariffs on imported flowers push prices higher, many florists turn to locally grown alternatives to stay afloat. For Richardson, that shift has meant a surge in demand and her busiest year yet.

"I definitely have had a lot more florists reaching out, wondering if they can get on our list or somehow buy wholesale flowers from us," she said.
