US (IN): Showcasing local flowers for American Grown Flowers Week

Rachelle, owner of Rooting for You flower farm, is celebrating American Grown Flowers Week by showcasing her locally grown flowers in Marion and Hancock Counties. American Grown Flowers Week aims to highlight the importance of supporting local flower farms across the United States. With 93% of flowers consumed in the U.S. being imported, this week raises awareness about the benefits of domestic flower production.

"Along with the Fourth of July, it is American Grown Flowers Week," Sarah Gillespie, a friend of Rachelle and a florist at Gillespie Florist explained. "We're celebrating American farmers that grow flowers and promoting their business. It's good for our economy, obviously. And it's good for just your well-being."

Rachelle grows thousands of flower stems annually, offering nearly 100 different varieties. Her farm, Rooting for You, emphasizes the joy and educational value of flowers. The Cut Flower Caucus advocates for local farmers by highlighting the cultural and economic importance of domestic flower production.

This advocacy is part of a broader effort to support local communities and the floral industry in the U.S. Rachelle uses sustainable farming practices at her farms in Marion and Hancock Counties, keeping her business local and environmentally friendly. During a segment on a local television show, Rachelle showcased examples of her flowers, including rudbeckia and dahlias, emphasizing their unique textures and colors.
