Smithers-Oasis UK has launched The Big Green Plan 2030, its new sustainability strategy. The document highlights some of the company's key achievements over the past five years, and sets out brand new 2030 goals, including environment, social and governance (ESG) commitments.
The new plan follows the original Big Green Plan, first published in 2021, which set 22 ambitious five-year sustainability targets. Smithers-Oasis UK is proud to confirm that 15 of those goals were achieved or exceeded, with several others falling only a fraction short of the target set, and significant progress made across all goals.
Among the most notable milestones is the 81% reduction in virgin plastic used within manufacturing processes, far exceeding the original target of 50%, alongside the elimination of shrink wrap from the company's retail-packed product range. Smithers-Oasis UK has also recently achieved zero waste to landfill, supported by improved recycling streams and energy recovery solutions.

A highlight has been the launch of Oasis Renewal Floral Foam in September 2025. Manufactured in Washington, Tyne & Wear, the pioneering product is made with renewable, plant-based materials and delivers a 56% lower carbon footprint compared to traditional petroleum-based floral foam, without compromising on the performance required by floral designers.
Paul Southwick, Managing Director of Smithers-Oasis UK, commented: "It's hard to believe that five years have passed since we launched our original Big Green Plan. I am incredibly proud of the impact the plan has had and there has been a lot of great work from our talented team at Smithers-Oasis UK. Now it's about looking ahead again, and we remain committed to learning, developing and continuously improving our practices and operations, all with the intention of creating a sustainable future for everyone connected to our business."

The Big Green Plan 2030 is structured around the ESG framework and sets out clear UK-specific targets to be achieved by 2030. Environmental goals include reducing scrap production, cutting carbon footprint, and developing the Oasis Floral Products range by prioritising sustainability at both the start and end of product life cycles.
Social commitments focus on employee wellbeing, education and engagement, while governance targets cover ethical sourcing, transparency and accountability. Smithers-Oasis UK has also committed to publishing annual updates to track progress openly.

Steph Gillespie, Marketing and Sustainability Specialist at Smithers-Oasis UK, added: "I'm really excited for this next evolution of The Big Green Plan – the move to the ESG structure gives us a more holistic approach and I think we have some fantastic new goals. Reflecting on the progress we've made since we first began formalising a UK sustainability strategy back in 2019, I feel immensely proud of our whole team, and we also appreciate the support from our suppliers, customers and other organisations who have been part of our journey so far."
