UK: Retailers in price war of the roses

Discounter Aldi has sparked a war of the roses with a Valentines’ Day bouquet of 100 stems for a bargain £25 - a whopping £474 less than a similar bunch from Interflora.

The store’s budget one hundred sweetheart roses are almost 20 times cheaper than the flower delivery service’s Grand Prix version.

While Interflora shoppers can expect to stump up £499.99 for bigger buds studded with diamante, savvy Romeos can save a small fortune with an equally stunning bouquet of smaller red roses.

And the chain’s bunch - which works out at just 25p a stem - is a third of the price of 100 sweetheart roses from Marks & Spencer and Waitrose where they carry a £75 price tag.
