"Australian florists face end of bloom"

In Perth alone, no less than twelve florists have closed their businesses over the past few years. In an article on The West Australian, the reporter goes as far as to say that 'the days of seeing a florist in a stroll along the high street could be numbered'. Due to an increase of cheaper imports and 'backyard businesses touting their wares on social media', existing shops are struggling hard to keep their businesses up and running.

One of Perth's florists, Innaloo florist, observes: “Our industry has taken a huge battering in the past few years because we just have too much competition coming from everywhere.” Vicki Higgins, who owns the flower shop, is not too positive, to say the least. "When we started 20 years ago...there was a great community and we all knew each other. [Now] the local florist is dying."
