Terra Nova Nurseries announces brand-new pulmonaria variety

'A lovely, rare, and updated version of our popular Pulmonaria ‘Raspberry Splash’'

Terra Nova Nurseries has announced a sneak peek of its brand-new Pulmonaria ‘Raspberry Frost’. A lovely, rare, and updated version of the company’s popular Pulmonaria ‘Raspberry Splash’, this easy-to-grow perennial blooms bright, coral-red flowers that are showy in early spring, and, when finished, are covered by newly emerging foliage for a very clean look.

Pulmonaria ‘Raspberry Frost’ features gray-green foliage with cream-silver edges and a heavily veiled leaf surface that can add interest and texture to containers, shade gardens, and mixed beds. This deciduous perennial is Terra Nova’s best foliage pulmonaria and has many special landscape uses and applications.

The variety is deer resistant, excellent for winter color, and well suited for the American Deep South. It is a stunning hummingbird attractor with a clean, compact habit that remains robust and attractive at retail.

U.S.D.A. Hardiness Zones for Pulmonaria ‘Raspberry Frost’ is 4-9, and its exposure allows for partial- to full-shade. This plant prefers cool roots with average to moist soil, and has a foliage height of 10”, a foliage spread of 18”, and a flower height of 8”.

Finish time to a 4” pot is five to seven weeks. An eight-week vernalization is required for flowering, plant size. The Terra Nova breeding team recommends that finishing growers transplant to 1-gallon pots during late summer and early fall for full plants in late winter.

Retailers will find that the interesting foliage of Pulmonaria ‘Raspberry Frost’ offers a fresh, unique look compared to other pulmonaria options.

Terra Nova Nurseries has created a “Plant Profile” page and “Grower Recipe” specific to this new variety so growers interested in orders can learn about growing habits, plant characteristics, fertilization recommendations, water requirements, and other insights provided by the breeding team.
