Australian native pot plant to raise money for SAS resources fund

Helix Australia is proud to announce a fund raising collaboration with SAS Resources Fund with the release of one of their stellar hybrid plants - Waxflower ‘Local Hero’. Bred by Kings Park & Botanic Gardens, Waxflower ‘ Local Hero’ is a stunning compact landscape plant featuring masses of dainty pink blooms flowering in early spring.

Helix Australia has commissioned a Waxflower ‘Local Hero’ label where $1 from all plants sold will be donated to SAS Resources Fund.

The SAS Resource Fund's mission is to assist current and former members of the Australian Defence Force, and their families, who suffer hardship because of their service with the Special Air Service Regiment.

This assistance extends to other members of the Australian Defence Force who are killed or disabled when participating in a Special Air Service Regiment controlled operation, exercise or activity.

Adrian Parsons, Managing Director Helix Australia says the release of Waxflower ‘Local Hero’ is eagerly anticipated by both the Australian nursery industry and gardening public.

“We are excited to be partnering with SAS Resources Fund and via our national grower and retailer network will aim to raise over $50,000 per annum with the Local Hero promotion over the next three years.” said Parsons.

Parsons continued, “Our breeding program is now starting to produce more compact forms of waxflower which makes them more suitable for landscape use and also presents a lot better in bud/flower for retail sale with less reliance on pruning and the use of plant growth regulators…”

Waxflower ‘Local Hero’ will initially be grown by Benara Nursery and be available via Western Australian garden centers and Bunnings W.A. Helix Australia is planning a national roll out of this fund raising initiative in 2023.
