Henk Braam - De Zonnebloem Young Plants

Ferns at FlowerTrials

Since its inception by Henk Braam in 2009, the focus has been on cultivating young ferns for the global market. Over the years, the company has experienced significant growth, as well as an expansion in the variety of ferns offered. Currently, Henk Braam cultivates about 200 types of ferns, including hardy varieties (deciduous and evergreen) and tropical ferns.

Tropical ferns are primarily used as indoor plants in Europe, while in other continents, hanging ferns in pots during the summer is more common. Additionally, ferns are popular for green walls and terrariums.

Hardy ferns partly serve as indoor plants but are mainly found in gardens or as decorative elements on terraces. In spring, they produce beautiful unfurling leaves, creating an extra visual effect in the garden.

Most species are propagated through spores (sowing), but Microferns BV also produces 40 types of ferns via tissue culture, supplied in 144-cell tissue culture trays that can be transplanted into a different plug size if desired.

At the flower trials, you can find a large part of Henk Braam's assortment at the sister company De Zonnebloem Jonge Planten. We offer ferns in various forms, including seed trays, small plugs (252 in a tray) to 7 cm plugs (28-cell), and several intermediate sizes. Thanks to modern transplanting techniques, customers can determine the desired plug size, and it is even possible to use the customer's own trays.

We warmly invite you to discover our range and the possibilities in week 24.
