China: 2025 Guangdong Phalaenopsis exhibition opens, showcasing 3,000 varieties

On February 24, 2025, the Guangdong Phalaenopsis Exhibition opened in Nanhai, Guangzhou, China. The three-day event, running until February 26, has attracted over 100 Phalaenopsis companies showcasing approximately 3,000 varieties.

Supported by the Guangdong Orchid Association, Foshan Nanhai Agriculture Government, and Guangdong Wanqin Yang Agriculture Company, the exhibition aims to promote the growth of Guangdong's Phalaenopsis industry. Guangdong is a major hub for Phalaenopsis cultivation, with Lihai Town alone housing over 300 nurseries and producing more than 60 million plants annually. In 2024, the industry's market value reached 1.2 billion RMB, with export trade surpassing 100 million RMB.

New varieties from Brighten Company.

Highlights of the Exhibition
Spanning 10,000 square meters, domestic breeders like Zhengzhou Jubao, Brighten, and Lv Julong, but also international breeders such as Anthura and Floricultura are presenting their varieties. Additionally, six industry-focused seminars are being held, where experts discuss cultivation techniques, market trends, and the growing role of e-commerce in Phalaenopsis sales.

A notable trend is the increasing popularity of online sales, particularly for mini-potted Phalaenopsis. To support this shift, Guangdong Wanqin Ocean Agricultural Company signed a cooperation agreement with Alibaba International, offering overseas shipment opportunities.

Bankers are also present at the exhibition, fostering innovation through financial support. Banks have signed credit agreements totaling 200 million RMB with breeding companies, providing funding for the development of new Phalaenopsis varieties.
