Salon du Végétal, Horticulture Business Days, Myplant & Garden, low rose prices after Valentine's day

The start of 2016 was marked by exhibitions. And in February, they continued. The Salon Du Vegetal in France, The Horticulture Business Days in the Netherlands and the MyPlant & Garden in Italy were all held in the second part of February. Besides that, February is also an important month for rose growers as the rose prices increase sharply. After Valentine's Day, the prices usually drop a bit, but in 2016 it seemed to be worse then ever. Below a small summary of these happenings.

France: Salon du Végétal opens its doors
The Salon du Végétal opened its doors in Angers, France on February 16. Every year, this three-day event brings more than 500 exhibitors and 15,000 visitors from France and abroad. The show ended on February 18.

NightSky wins Gold Innovert Award at Salon du Végétal
At the Salon Du Végétal, the Innovert Award was handed out to Petunia NightSky. This variety also won the ‘FleuroStar’ award at the FlowerTrials 2015 and the prize for ‘Best Bedding or Pot Plant’ at the Four Oaks show 2015 in the UK.

Photo report: Horticulture Business Days 2016
Also in February, the Horticulture Business Days was held in Gorinchem, the Netherlands. The show, spread out over three days, attracted more than 16,000 visitors to 400+ exhibitors. Italy: Photo impression of Myplant & Garden
The MyPlant & Garden exhibition was held for the second time in Milano, Italy. The visitor numbers increased by 40% this year and therefore the organisation is looking forward to the 2017 edition. The international trade fair of the floricultural/gardening sector, took place at the Polo Rho Fiera di Milano, in Milan. Kenya: "Auction prices cut roses are terribly low"
Usually after Valentine's day, the auction prices of roses drop a bit, however, this year, in 2016, it seemed to be worse than ever. "The prices are terribly low. So, low that we decided to reduce the quantities and stop exporting some lengths to the auction," says Sachin Appachu, general manager at Bliss Flora, a Kenyan 35 ha sized rose farm.
