Novelties and innovations awarded at Myplant & Garden 2019

What were the top novelties and innovations presented at the Myplant & Garden this year? Several products from different exhibiting companies were nominated and below, we will present the award-winning companies and products in each category of the “2019 Myplant and Garden novelties and innovations of the hoticultural sector” award.

The fifth edition of the Myplant & Garden took place last week (from February 20-22) in Milan, Italy. 733 exhibitors (of which 21 percent from abroad) promoted their products and services and the show was visited by 20,100 professionals.

The jury was composed of Renato Ferretti, Silvano Frigo, Mara Lombardo, Fancesca, Valter Pironio, Marta Meggiolaro and Paolo Milani. They evaluated the candidate products over the days preceding the opening of the trade fair and selected the products to be admitted to the competition. 

On Wednesday February 20, each member of the jury has seen the candidate products and selected the winning products for the Excellence Plaques for 2019. Below the winning companies and product. 


Lorenzo Fedi, Luca Quilici and Christian Petrasi of Flora Toscana next to the award-winning new variety; Grevillea Ignite. The Grevillea Ignite of Flora Toscana won the first price in “2019 Myplant and Garden novelties and innovations of the horticultural sector” prize in the category best ornamental plants. The variety was honored by the jury for its colors, the innovation of its shape and for the importance for landscape gardening, in particular for xeroscaping. Grevillea Ignite (G.alpina x rosmarinifolia), is a tough and hardy plant native to New Zealand, suitable both for growing in containers and as a border plant, for which Flora Toscana holds exclusivity rights for Europe. 


Alessandro Gambin of Gambin Fiori presenting the award-winning cut rose Rosa Westminister. It was awarded for the innovative and environmentally friendly packaging, and the potential resistance to diseases.


The team of ICL. They won the “2019 Myplant and Garden novelties and innovations of the horticultural sector” prize in category D with the MET 52 – Organic anti-weevil, an organic insecticide that answers the requirements of organic farming. It is suitable for all the phases of development if the weevil in the nursery. “Innovative means of production that answer the requirements of eco-friendly agriculture”, the jury said.


Francesca Di Maria of R3GIS. In the category Innovative machinery, tools and installations for horticulture, they won the “2019 Myplant and Garden novelties and innovations of the horticultural sector” prize with their professional software for cultivation; an innovative remotely-controlled system for the conditions of trees and arboriculture that allows the introduction of innovative cultivation systems even though it requires assistance of operators.


Maurizio Fasolo of Ambra Elettronica. In the category new building materials and/or furniture for garden and landscaper, their Quattro, interior health garden won the first prize in the Excellence Showcase. “This product allows the user to cultivate unusual plants for interiors. It is easy to use thanks to its modern design, innovative material and advanced gardening indoor technologies.


Silvia Rossi of Plastecnic presenting their “2019 Myplant and Garden novelties and innovations of the horticultural sector” awarded product; pot with multifunctional strap. This product received the first prize in the category pots and decoration items. “It is a versatile product that is able to answer the requests of the market by increasing the value of plants.”


Thomas Eichenauer of Lite Soil presenting Lite Cubes. The jury has highlighted the opportunity to give a special mention to this product, which are biodegradable wooden cubes that can be used for open-field and pot cultivation.
