A premier Centre of Excellence for Floriculture in Ujjain is planned strategically in anticipation of the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2028, this facility will be developed on an identified 19-acre plot for which a formal proposal has already been submitted to the Central government.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Wednesday announced the establishment of the centre during a departmental review where he also sanctioned the organisation of a dedicated "Mango Festival" in Bhopal to celebrate and promote the state's diverse horticultural produce.
These initiatives are designed to provide local farmers with world class training and resources, enabling them to compete effectively on a global scale. While reviewing the Department of Horticulture and Food Processing, Chief Minister Yadav emphasised the critical need to boost agriculture-based income through the comprehensive expansion of the horticulture sector.
He noted that such crops are highly effective at generating significant revenue from smaller landholdings, making them a vital tool for rural prosperity. To support this growth, the state is prioritising the development of robust supply chains and branding strategies to facilitate the entry of local products into international markets.
