Geert Valstar, Valstar Handling

"The worst of the rush is over"

The peak season for summer flowers has once again come to an end. For Geert Valstar of Valstar Handling, it was a hectic peak season with among others many delays from Kenya due to extreme weather conditions. According to this company, this season was also much more irregular compared to last year. "For Dutch Mother's Day, the prices were quite good, less so for Valentine's Day. For Women's Day and English Mother's Day, the prices were very high because they fell in the same week. Trade always comes our way, sometimes it's as if it's just dumped here, and it needs to be auctioned off for a holiday. They just expect us to sell it," he shares.

Since the beginning of January, Valstar Handling has also been on-site in Naaldwijk (the Netherlads), where they've opened a new location. Here, they primarily process roses, including those from Kenya: "Our growers are satisfied, and next week we hope to travel to Kenya to visit many new growers. We will also attend the IFTEX in Nairobi while we're there."
