Industries across the United States are seeing rising costs tied to the war in Iran, including higher fuel prices and shipping expenses. That ripple effect is showing up in unexpected places, including the flower industry, as reported by the Orange County Register, and other news outlets.
The next few weeks are typically the busy season for the industry ahead of Mother's Day and graduations. NBC Montana checked in with local flower shops to see how they're being impacted.
"I'm not seeing a lot of increase in pricing because of you know what's going on internationally and the price of fuel. But I do expect in the next month or so to see you know some kind of increase as far as our shipping cost and delivery cost at least," said Marjorie Dula, the manager of Bitterroot Flower Shop.
Dula says her shop mostly relies on locally sourced flowers, which has helped mitigate supply problems overseas for the time being.
