Each May 26, Mother's Day is celebrated in Poland. It is one of the biggest flower events of the year. Also in the supermarket, increasingly more flowers are on the shelves. This year, however, the fact that it fell on a Monday created some logistical challenges for supermarket buyers as it was not clear whether the main flower stock should be delivered to stores on Friday, Saturday, or Monday, especially since everything is closed in Poland on Sundays. This is explained by Bohdan Tustanivskyi of Profiflora, a cut flower supplier, who visited together with his team several supermarkets in Poland on this holiday.
More ready-made mixed bouquets
And the shelves were already filled with Mother's Day flowers and bouquets on Saturday. Tustanivskyi noticed that tere were significantly more ready--made mixed bouquets inn the shelves then other years. "This trend comes from Western Europe (Germany, the Netherlands). For example, at Lidl, roughly more than half the shelf space was dedicated to ready-made bouquets." Also, there were fewer tulips for this holiday in the supermarkets. "We see the number decreasing year after year."
Diverse assortment per supermarket
Tustanivskyi and his team visited several supermarkets and found the assortment quite diverse. "For instance, the only Polish-owned supermarket chain, Dino, delighted its customers with high-quality premium roses 50 cm with big heads. They also offer exclusively Polish-grown tulips and carnations imported only from Colombia."

Next up were Auchan and Kaufland, which, according to Tustanivskyi, showcased their usual wide assortment, including peonies, freesias, mixed bouquets, and more.

"Lidl, as mentioned, focused mainly on "bouquet in rattan" arrangements and attractive mixed-color rose bouquets."

According to Tustanivskyi, Biedronka is known for offering a large quantity of more budget-friendly flowers. "This year, there was a noticeable amount of African roses, spray carnations and mix margaretka.

Floral are in supermarkets increasing
Bohdan sees the flower area and assortment in supermarkets growing year by year. "Overall, it's clear that supermarkets are taking up an increasingly larger share of the floral market. Customers appreciate the stable prices and wide assortment. Often, from the early morning, you can see many people trying to pick the best flowers for their moms. An important factor is that flowers are available in supermarkets from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM, which often makes it possible for customers to make a "last-minute" purchase. But most importantly, each year there are more and more flowers on the shelves for Mother's Day, and that leads to a simple conclusion: children are loving their moms more and more!.", he concludes
